Do You Know?

Do you know how you have touched me?

Can you see the change inside?

No? Neither can I, not today.

Watch closely though and you may see

A subtle hint, a shadowed glimpse

Of what you've done for me.

The loneliness I kept hidden behind a cheerful mask,

I knew it too well.

I feared sometimes that I would be engulfed, swallowed whole,

And no one would notice my absence.

But you came,

A shining light in the dark.

You with your burning flame of friendship,

Your laughter and smile filled its place.

Perhaps, when these days have long since past into fond memories

The world will see the truth of how you molded me.

But for now I only ask. . . Do you know?
