Whisper

You said something delightful tonight.

And yet it surprised me too.

I once thought I'd never hear it said to me.

You whispered it softly,

Almost silently against my hair

And then you kissed me for the first time.

Your words and tone made my spirit tremble,

And then, suddenly, it took flight.

I felt like a caged bird released from bondage,

Uncertain that it could really be true,

But wanting to sing and shout it out loud.

Instead I only whispered in reply:

"I love you too."
